Graduate Student Life

Graduate school is a challenging and rewarding experience as one undergoes the transition from being a student to becoming a scholar.  Graduate student life revolves around research, teaching, and community.

Research
Research is vital to the graduate program and thus provides a cornerstone for graduate student life.  We encourage our students to get involved in research as early as possible in their gradaute careers.  Completing a long term research project is a necessary component of obtaining a Ph.D. in Physics.

Teaching
Many of our students contribute to the growth and devleopment of undergraduate students through their work as teaching assistants, tutors, and graduate student instructors. A standard teaching assistant assignment involves working in either discussion sections or laboratory sections.

Community
We encourage our graduate students to be active members of the community.  Participation in colloquium, seminars, student groups and organizations is expected.
